Derby County managerial target John Eustace is expected to be posed questions on his Blackburn Rovers future today when he takes charge of their FA Cup tie against Wolves.

The Rams are said to have made Eustace their first-choice option to replace Paul Warne and could pay the reported £750,000 in compensation to get him out of Blackburn. With Eustace the heavy favourite, bookmakers have stopped taking bets on the new man in at Pride Park.

But, Eustace will still be in charge of Blackburn on Sunday lunchtime when they take on Wolves in the FA Cup. The Lancashire Telegraph report that there are concerns over his long-term future at Ewood Park, but that he will be in the dugout when they host the Premier League relegation battlers, with kick-off at 12.30pm.

They also report that Derby are yet to make an official approach, but matters are expected to come to a head in the hours and days after Blackburn’s FA Cup tie. Eustace is almost certain to be asked questions about a potential move to the club where he made 62 appearances as a player.

His success with both Birmingham and now with Blackburn, who sit inside the Championship play-off spots, means this is not the first time clubs have been linked with Eustace. But previously, when Coventry and Hull were supposedly interested, he batted away questions.

While Eustace would be swapping a play-off push for a relegation battle, he would be returning to the Midlands, where his family are based. Plus, there have been suggestions that he was frustrated with the lack of transfer activity at Blackburn over the last two windows.
