He reportedly earns around £200,000 just for his two-week stint with the BBC during Wimbledon, not to mention his lucrative deals with ESPN, CBS, NBC, USA and Eurosport. His acting career has also contributed to his wealth, with appearances in films like 'Anger Management' and TV shows like '30 Rock'.

McEnroe isn't one to hoard his wealth, though. He owns an extensive car collection and even has a portrait of himself by Andy Warhol, valued at over £35,000, as per the Express.

John McEnroe's rockstar wife

McEnroe was previously married to Academy Award-winning actress Tatum O'Neal from 1986 to 1994. The couple had three children together, but following their divorce, McEnroe was awarded sole custody in 1998.

However, love came knocking again for McEnroe when he met rockstar Patty Smyth, the lead singer of the band Scandal, in 1997. The couple has two children together.

In a candid confession, McEnroe admitted that although Smyth offered him another chance at love, he wasn't initially looking for anything serious.

"I was 35 years old when we started to go out and at that time I thought I don't want anymore kids, I don't want to have another marriage," he said in a 2018 interview. "I just want to go out with some young girls who don't want to do anything but have a good time, and then Patty came along.

"It gave me a second lease on life and she doesn't get thanked enough. [His wife] has allowed me to do my thing. She makes me more whole and a better person. I like to think we work as a team and we've made each other better, the sum of the two of us is better than individual parts."

John McEnroe's multi-million-pound homes

McEnroe and Smyth reside in Manhattan but have a portfolio of properties across the US. In 2013, they purchased a ranch-style home in Malibu for £2.7m, and by 2015, they had invested £17m in an exclusive property in Malibu's Paradise Cove.

They also parted with a Manhattan apartment in 2013 for £2.5m. The pair hold approximately £41.5m worth of property in Los Angeles. Additionally, McEnroe and Smyth own a £4.2m two-acre estate in Southampton, New York.
