Natasha Jonas has claimed she’s only taking on Lauren Price in a world championship unification because she failed to get other ‘bigger’ fights.

Welsh WBA welterweight champion Price will take on Liverpool’s Jonas, the WBC and IBF belt holder, in London on March 7.

It will be a huge clash at the Royal Albert Hall but 40-year-old Jonas insists that Price was down the pecking order.

“I’ve made no secret in saying this, but the big fight for me is [Katie] Taylor,” said Jonas, who lost to the Irish legend in 2021 and also at the 2012 Olympics, to betfred.com.

“A rematch with Mikaela Mayer was something that I was chasing up until August last year, so I just believe they both bring more to the table.

“However, Lauren Price is the fight that I’ve got and I have to win to keep all the doors open and whatever fight happens after that is an undisputed fight. Whether that’s Taylor or Mayer, I’ve just got to win.

“Personally, regarding the Taylor fight, she’s beaten me on two big occasions and for me, I just want a bit of revenge and I believe that fight would draw a line in the sand.”

Ystrad Mynach’s Price knocked out Bexcy Mateus in Liverpool in December then Jonas beat Ivana Habazin on the same bill.

The winner of the London clash is likely to target WBO champion Mayer in a fight to become undisputed world welterweight champion.

Victory for Price would be a launchpad after an impressive start to life as a professional for the Olympic gold medallist.

"It's a fight that I've wanted for a long time. I think everyone knows I've been pushing for it," she said.

"I believe you call yourself a world champion, you should fight anyone."
