Jonathan David has been told he would suit Arne Slot's play style if he made the move to Liverpool. The Canadian forward has frequently been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years, but he remains in Ligue 1, where he is into his fifth season with Lille.

David scored at Anfield last month as Lille was beaten 2-1 by Liverpool in the Champions League, and he has scored fairly consistently since joining the French club from Gent, with 104 goals in 216 appearances in all competitions — an average of just under a goal every two games.

A host of Premier League clubs have been touted as possible destinations for David, with one of them being Manchester United. However, one of David's former Lille teammates, Jose Fonte, does not think moving to Old Trafford would be a smart move at the moment, instead urging to David to consider Arsenal or Liverpool.

Arsenal could be in the market for a striker in the summer after persisting with Kai Havertz this season, while Liverpool could also look for attacking reinforcements, with Darwin Nunez potentially on the way out and uncertainty lingering over Mohamed Salah's future.

"I’d love to see Jonathan David at Arsenal, I think he would thrive there," Fonte told BoyleSports who offer the latest Premier League betting. "Arsenal are crying out for a striker with his qualities, they play good football and they would suit him perfectly. Chelsea have a good young squad with up and coming players, that would be another good option for him if it isn’t Arsenal.

"I could also see him at Liverpool if Mohamed Salah leaves, although Salah plays on the right, David has pace, finishing ability, link-up play, he plays like Arne Slot likes to. At the moment I wouldn’t want him to join a club like Manchester United during a really difficult situation."
