Jordan Henderson sends two-word message before Everton as Liverpool feelings clear
Former Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has sparked some nostalgia on social media in the build-up to the Merseyside derby. The ex-Red shared a throwback of his goal against Everton on Instagram, clearly in high spirits as Liverpool prepare for the final derby clash at Goodison Park.
Liverpool's rival from across Stanley Park is riding high after a commanding 4-0 victory over Wolves. And despite sitting pretty with a seven-point cushion atop the Premier League, Liverpool knows there's little room for relaxation as they brace for another intense battle.
Henderson, who now showcases his skills in the Eredivisie with Ajax, waved goodbye to Liverpool last summer, initially heading off to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq - playing under Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard - before making a European comeback six months later.
And with the derby looming, Liverpool's official Instagram lit up with a clip of Henderson's long-range belter against the Toffees during a memorable 4-1 triumph in 2021.
Branding the post "Derby days," and adding a steam-blowing face emoji, the 34-year-old midfielder reminded everyone of the fiery passion that fuels these clashes.
Although he parted ways with the club, Henderson's links to Liverpool couldn't be clearer; an October visit to the AXA Training Centre saw him warmly received by old friends, including Virgil van Dijk, who took over the captain's armband.
Speaking to Voetbal Primeur upon his return to Merseyside, he said: "So good. I've watched them a lot, I think the team have had another lift with the manager and the staff coming in.
"The performances have been outstanding every time I've watched them play, they look in full control. I went to Liverpool a few weeks ago and met Arne Slot there and his staff and the team, it was very impressive to be honest. You can see the energy is very good there at the minute, the vibe is good, they look very strong in the league. So it's nice to see."
Liverpool.com says: Henderson appears to be enjoying life with an Ajax side that is on the up and that is the move he should have made straight away after leaving Liverpool. The Saudi move was a mistake but he has found the right kind of club now.
