Jordan Henderson U-turns on transfer decision as ex-Liverpool captain at centre of Ajax controversy
Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is reportedly set to stay at Ajax this month despite interest from AS Monaco.
Earlier this week, it was claimed that Henderson, 34, was in discussions with the Eredivisie giants about the possibility of terminating his contract and joining the Ligue 1 side on a free transfer.
The midfielder started Ajax's Europa League victory over Galatasaray on Thursday night but was stripped of the captaincy for the clash as speculation surrounding his future remained rife.

However, The Athletic claims that Henderson has now decided to stay put at Ajax after holding talks with the club's hierarchy, in which he vowed to help the Dutch giants fight for trophies.
Henderson has made 32 appearances for Ajax across all competitions this season, with Francesco Farioli's side sitting second in the Eredivisie, four points behind PSV Eindhoven.
Henderson ended his glittering 12-year stay at Liverpool in 2023 when he swapped Anfield for Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq, managed by Reds legend Steven Gerrard.
But the midfielder's time in the Middle East lasted less than six months as he secured a return to Europe, with Ajax, in January 2024.
After Ajax's 2-1 win over Galatasaray on Thursday, former Dutch international Wesley Sneijder called on Henderson to "be a man" and front up to the media as speculation surrounding his future intensified.
"Don't be so difficult. You just play that match with the armband on and then you say, 'Yeah guys, I don't know yet," said Sneijder. "Something is going on. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
"Be a man and stand up. Right now you get all this speculation and you create unrest. It could have been much calmer if he had just worn the [captain's] armband."
Henderson is contracted at Ajax until June 2026.
