Jordan Rapana's Hull FC influence paying off as young gun vying for round one spot
The likes of Jordan Rapana were brought to Hull FC to add the necessary leadership and experience to the squad. However, their responsibility also cuts a lot deeper, with an eye on the future as well as the present.
For Rapana, that responsibility falls on helping to bring on the likes of Logan Moy, the club's highly-rated teenage full-back who made 16 first-team appearances last season. The goal is for players like the former New Zealand international to help develop those rising talents, with the 35-year-old branded as the ultimate competitor and teammate.
That influence also rubs off on others, with Rapana playing a large proportion of his NRL career at Gold Coast Titans and Canberra Raiders on the wing. That is a position the Kiwi has trained in this pre-season, with the likes of Lewis Martin and Harvey Barron also taking in all they can. But for Moy, the club's reigning Young Player of the Year, the influence is already rubbing off.

"Raps is unreal in training," he told Hull Live. "He slots into full-back, and I'm just shocked at what he can do. He's so experienced, and he's always passing on little tips, so I'm just trying to take in everything I can from him."
Moy is gunning for a place in John Cartwright's squad for the club's Super League opener at Catalans Dragons next month. He has Rapana for company, but there is a possibility that the former could line up on the wing, having been eased into life at Hull FC this pre-season.
"100%," Moy added when asked about his goal to play from the get-go. "I'd love to start the first game, and I'll put my best foot forward to try and do that, but we'll see what the decision is when it comes to that point. For now, I have to keep working hard in training. We've still got a few weeks to go, but I'm loving it so far. It's been really good."
Hull are in action for the first time this year on February 1, taking on Castleford Tigers in Joe Westerman's testimonial game.
