Jose Mourinho close to signing new contract with Manchester United
Jose Mourinho is close to signing a new contract with Manchester United.
The Daily Telegraph revealed a fortnight ago that United were in advanced talks with Mourinho over an extension to his existing deal, which expires in June 2019, albeit with an option to stay for a further 12 months.
Negotiations gathered pace last month and have continued to progress swiftly with both parties having now reached an agreement.
Mourinho has yet to formally sign the new deal but that is expected to be a formality and an announcement from the club will follow once that has happened.
Mourinho ridiculed claims earlier this month that he could quit Old Trafford at the end of the season by insisting he was fully committed to the club, with whom he won the Europa League and League Cup in his debut season last term, and is determined to restore sustained success.

“I am going to leave when the club wants me to leave because I have no intention to leave at all. My intention is to stay and to work and to improve and to bring the club to where the club belongs,” said Mourinho, who will turn 55 later this month.
United’s hierarchy have been pleased with the progress the team has made under Mourinho since Louis van Gaal’s sacking as manager in May 2016 and believe the Portuguese has raised standards and restored a winning mentality at the club.
