Jose Mourinho gives Chelsea green light to managerial 'target' amid Mauricio Pochettino uncertainty
Jose Mourinho has given Ruben Amorim a glowing endorsement amid speculation linking the Sporting CP boss with a move to Chelsea. The 39-year-old has been linked with a host of European clubs throughout the last few months.
Sporting are currently on course to win their second Portuguese title under his stewardship. Liverpool and West Ham United have both been linked with Amorim, as have Chelsea.
The Argentine has struggled to blend together Chelsea’s expensively assembled squad since taking over in the close season, and his team are a lowly ninth in the Premier League. Some fans even chanted the name of former manager Mourinho during the 2-2 draw at Brentford back in March.
And now speaking to Mais Futebol via the Mirror, Mourinho was asked for his thoughts on Amorim and said, “It’s also a question I shouldn’t answer, but what can I tell you? I like him as a person, I like him as a coach.
“I think he’s capable of coaching in any league and he’s capable of coaching at any club. But he’s in a good league and he’s at a great club.
“It’s his decision and it will be, or not, up to the clubs that want him or don’t want him, or want to convince him, with more or less arguments. What’s clear from me is that I like the person and I like the coach.”

Speaking towards the end of last month, Pochettino admitted he’s unsure what Chelsea’s sporting directors think of his performance as manager this season. He said: “That’s a good question for them if you have the opportunity to ask them.
“But it’s not a subjective idea of us [that we have problems], it is the reality. Okay, that is a point: if we are [considered] responsible, we are responsible.
“Maybe we are not responsible in this situation. I cannot answer the question because, to be honest, I don’t know what they are thinking.”
