Josh Doig could make THIRD Serie A transfer as ex Hibs star wanted man after Sassuolo relegation

Torino could ensure Josh Doig stays in Serie A with an interest in signing him from relegated Sassuolo.

The former Hibs left-back only signed for The Black and Greens for £5million from Hellas Verona back in January but the move has quickly turned sour after relegation to Serie B was confirmed with a 2-0 defeat to Cagliari. It's unlikely he'll be keen to play in the second tier and that's where Torino could come in.

The Turin outfit, who finished ninth in the top flight, are said to be considering a double swoop for the Scotland under-21s star and Norwegian teammate Kristian Thorstvedt, according to reports in Italy. Il Toro were previously credited with interest in Doig while still at Easter Road and then when at Hellas Verona and Croatian boss Ivan Juric has him high on his wishlist.

The 22-year-old made 15 Sassuolo appearances in what was his second season in Serie A after a year-and-a-half with Verona. He could now be set to make his THIRD move to an Italian team in two years.

Doig looked poised to join Marseille in January and was even at the airport ready to fly to France before getting a call telling him to turn back. Sassuolo had offered a bigger transfer fee and so Hellas Verona pursued that option instead.

Rangers had also been reportedly having a look as they tried to strengthen at left-back with a chance of Ridvan Yilmaz leaving, but the Turk established himself in Philippe Clement's side and stayed put. Gers still need a left-back this summer with Borna Barisic on his way out but it looks like Brazilian Jefte is the man they've chosen to replace him. Celtic will also be looking in that area with competition required for Greg Taylor.
