Josh Mulligan eyes Dundee landmark against Rangers as he names teammate ready to 'push on'

Josh Mulligan wants to mark becoming a Dundee centurion with a statement result at Ibrox.

The academy graduate will make his 100th appearance in Dark Blue at Rangers. It is a major milestone for the Scotland under-21 cap and it would be an even bigger day if Dundee could back it up with a result against Philippe Clement’s men. Mulligan admitted: "Hopefully I can be involved somehow this weekend and make that 100th appearance. Games at Ibrox are always good ones to be a part of, definitely.

"I feel like it's always been a night time game there recently. This might be the first one that I've had there that's a 3pm kick-off. That'll be a bit different. Ibrox is massive. It's a massive stadium and a massive club. I'm looking forward to it. It definitely has gone quickly. I think the first one was when I was 16 against St Mirren. It's been a long time, but it feels like it's just gone by so quickly. I'm happy with that milestone, it's a good one to hit. It's been a long journey so far but hopefully I can keep it going."

The 22-year-old has had numerous spells in the Premiership with Dundee but reckons the highlight was getting his hometown team back to the top-flight in 2023. "I think the highlight so far has been winning the Championship,” Mulligan claimed. "I played every game and it was a great season for me personally, for the team and for the club.

"A lot of boys that I came through with were involved in that season as well. That did make it more special. But it wasn't just them, the whole team were all really close and I still keep in touch with a lot of the boys."

Fellow Dundee academy graduate Lyall Cameron made his 100th appearance for Dundee earlier this month. Mulligan knows you won’t see that happen at many Premiership clubs with regards to boys that have come up together through the ranks. He stated: “Lyall has done really well. Hopefully all of us can keep going and keep pushing on.

"You very rarely see many academy boys make 100 appearances for one club, to be honest. For me and Lyall to do that is really good. Like I say, hopefully the other boys can do that as well and kick on."

The worry for the Dundee fans is will Mulligan make the 150 game mark? He is out-of-contract in the summer and is still to pen an extension. The midfielder admitted talks are on-going and he certainly hasn’t closed the door on extending his Dens Park stay.

Mulligan stated: "To be honest, I'm just letting my agent sort all that out. It is a big decision. Look, I'm happy playing games of football.

"That's just what I want to do, play games of football. I'll just leave that to my agent to sort out the contract stuff. I'm on 99 appearances and that's a lot of games. If I can keep playing games of football, then I'll be happy."

The Dundee star believes he has started to bring more consistency to his game and that is what he needs to continue to do. He confirmed: "I think I've had a few runs of games now. I think I need to start showing more of what I can do and just impressing really.

"I think there's a lot of tough games coming up and I'm looking forward to that challenge. It's been a decent last couple of weeks for us, but I'm always wanting more. I'm looking at these next games and I'm trying to kick on."
