Celtic could still see their resolve to keep Kyogo Furuhashi tested this month with Stade Rennes reportedly willing to wait until after their next two Champions League fixtures to make a move.

The 30-year-old is reportedly top of Jorge Sampaoli's shopping list as he looks to steer the club away from the Ligue 1 relegation scrap and it’s said Celtic would demand £10million for Kyogo, who turns 30 next week and is under contract until 2027. But with the Hoops pushing for the knockout stage of Europe's elite competition it's unlikely Brendan Rodgers will green light any sale before progress is secured - with Young Boys next on the agenda before next Wednesday's clash with Aston Villa.

UEFA rules state that clubs cannot alter their squads during the league phase - with clubs allowed to register a maximum of three new players by February 6 should they progress from the league phase. And should the Scottish champions sell before the clash at Villa Park it would leave Adam Idah as the only recognised first-team striker in their Champions League squad. Not likely, then.

Ouest-France state Rennes "would like to move quickly" but "uncertainties" around the Premiership leaders’ progression has held up any discussions. It is said the Japan international is still "among the priorities" with the French side willing to wait on a deal.

Jota is also in limbo a Rennes - with the rumour mill in overdrive over the prospect of a Celtic return after falling out of favour since the arrival of Sampaoli. Reports in Turkey suggest that a £6.7m permanent transfer price tag has been placed on the winger.

But sources in France suggest that a loan move could also be on the table as they look to cut their losses following the Portuguese forward's summer move from Al-Ittihad. It is noted the Rennes still have one more space to loan a player abroad in line with Ligue 1 rules - which could clear a path back to Celtic Park for the wide man.
