Nottingham Forest fans were seemingly not the only ones in awe of Chris Wood’s brilliant hat-trick against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Reds striker dominated the headlines on Saturday thanks to his terrific treble as the Seagulls were thrashed 7-0 at the City Ground. And it appears his exploits also drew plaudits in Spain - specifically from Real Madrid ace Jude Bellingham.

A Forest supporter has posted footage on social media site X of the England international apparently commenting on Wood’s goalscoring achievement. Bellingham’s one-word response perfectly sums up an incredible afternoon Trentside.

X user @raggs_ uploaded a video with the caption: “Real Madrid players in my hotel. ... What do you think of Chris woods hatrick today ??? He said" top " !!!! #nffc”

In the clip, which has been viewed more than one million times, the Real Madrid squad are seen making their way through a hotel. France star Kylian Mbappe is asked what he made of Wood’s hat-trick but he failed to respond.

As Bellingham walks past, a voice calls out: "Jude! What about Chris Wood's hat-trick today? Chris Wood's hat-trick today. Talk to me! Come on!”

The midfielder gives a wry smile before turning away. When he turns around he can be seen mouthing the word: "Top!”

On Saturday, Wood became the first Forest player to net a hat-trick at the City Ground since Nigel Clough managed the same feat in 1987. Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams and Jota Silva also scored to add to a Lewis Dunk own goal as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men romped to three points.

It was the Reds’ biggest ever win in the Premier League and their biggest ever top flight victory since they hammered Chelsea by the same scoreline in 1991. The result took them level with second-placed Arsenal in the table.

Wood is enjoying his most prolific goalscoring season in the Premier League. He took his tally to the campaign so far to 17 with his three goals against Brighton.

Head coach Nuno described it as a “fantastic” day as his team bounced back from a 5-0 thumping away to Bournemouth. It was an emphatic return to winning ways and the Portuguese said the response was “beyond expectation”.
