Julen Lopetegui conceded that Mohamed Salah is arguably the best player in the world on current form after the Egyptian produced another stunning display in Liverpool's 5-0 win over West Ham at the London Stadium.

Salah scored his 17th Premier League goal of the season and recorded his 12th and 13th assists of the 2024-25 top-flight campaign as the Reds routed Lopetegui's men in East London.

The 32-year-old is arguably in the best form of his Liverpool career, and the Hammers manager recognized the Egyptian's quality in a post-match interview with Sky Sports.

"Mo Salah is at the moment one of the best players, even the best player in the world," said Lopetegui, who accepted that Sunday's game was over as a contest by the half-way point after Liverpool scored three goals in the first half. He added: "We are talking about the best team in the Premier League and one of the best in the world. In the first half the match was gone, so it was a tough game for us."

Salah sits at the top of the league's goals and assists charts for the season, and against West Ham he became the first player in Premier League history to register a goal and an assist in eight separate matches in a single season.

That is a remarkable feat considering Liverpool has not even reached the halfway mark in its 2024-25 fixture schedule, with 20 more league games to come in the new year.

Sky Sports' Patrick Davison put it to Salah that he was on course for a 'Ballon d'Or season' in a post-match interview, and asked the 32-year-old whether he was motivated by individual accolades.

Salah responded: "The only thing in my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be a part of that. That's the only thing i think about this season. I will do my best for the team to win the trophy, we're going in the right direction, but there are a few other teams trying to catch us and they're very good teams. We have to stay focused, humble, work hard and go again."
