Jurgen Klopp admission over Man City's 115 charges should shock nobody but there is just one catch

The only shocking thing about Jurgen Klopp's latest comments on Manchester City is that he said them out loud.

Klopp left Liverpool this summer after deciding he could take Liverpool no further. Klopp won everything during his time at Anfield but only left with one Premier League title due to City's dominance.

The German has since taken a role as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer, while his successor Arne Slot has guided Liverpool to a position as clear favourites for the title in his first season.

City's defence of their 115 charges for alleged financial breaches has been heard by an independent panel and the club are awaiting the verdict at some point in the coming months. So, too, are their Premier League rivals who will wait to see if their club will be retrospectively awarded any titles if City are found guilty and potentially stripped of their titles.

Jose Mourinho has already told Manchester United that he will expect a bonus if they are awarded a title for coming second in 2017/18, with City's charges affecting a period from 2009 to 2018.

Speaking this week, Klopp offered a similar view, telling a public forum in Germany that he will invite his old Liverpool squad to Mallorca if City are found guilty for a party and hold a 'parade in my garden'.

"We had this discussion when I left," Klopp said. "I haven't spent a lot of time in Mallorca because I am always flying around the place. But if it would happen, I told all the people who wanted to [come]: 'Just book a flight to Mallorca. I will buy the beer!' We'd have our own parade in my garden."

It is clearly in Klopp's interest that City's record is tarnished as his own record at Liverpool will be improved - however the irony is that he would not get more than his sole winner's medal even if City were stripped of all titles in the period under scrutiny.

Klopp arrived at Anfield in 2015, finishing eighth, fourth and fourth in the three seasons before the cut-off for the charges in 2018. He guided Liverpool to second place in 2019 as City won the domestic treble - leaving Liverpool second despite amassing 97 points - but Liverpool wouldn't get any retrospective title for that season.
