Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been spotted for the first time since beginning his new role with the Red Bull group at the start of 2025.

The German has become Red Bull's global head of soccer and while the exact nature of his role is yet to become clear, it is set to be partly ambassadorial and partly about being a mentor for the other coaches within the system. The group wants to take the next step in its development and views this as an ideal appointment to further elevate its status in the game.

Klopp was spotted in the stands watching Paris FC take on Amiens today in Ligue 2. The club from the French capital, who won by a goal to nil, is linked with the Red Bull group, who own a 10.6 per cent stake in it.

Klopp’s move to the Red Bull group proved controversial in Germany where the takeover of Leipzig by the energy drinks brand, which was not in line with the usual fan-led model, was not welcomed. Fans of Borussia Dortmund, in particular, were unhappy, but Klopp has attempted to explain it.

Speaking on the podcast of former Germany, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos, he said: "You cannot make your decision depending on what reactions there will be. I did not want to step on anyone's toes. I love all my former clubs, but I don't know what I could have done so that everyone is happy.

"I am 57 and can still work a few more years, but I did not see myself on the sidelines for now. It was clear for me that I would do something - so then Red Bull came."

Klopp’s former assistant, Pep Lijnders, was fired by Red Bull Salzburg last month. Improving both Salzburg and RB Leipzig, the other major Red Bull club in Europe, will be a priority for Klopp.

He will offer some more insight into what his role entails on Tuesday in a press conference to introduce himself to the media in Austria. The former Liverpool boss was replaced by Arne Slot in the summer.
