Jurgen Klopp's true feelings about Curtis Jones after Liverpool midfielder's praise for Arne Slot
Curtis Jones has been one of the more outspoken members of Liverpool’s squad this season when it comes to comparing life under Arne Slot with his predecessor Jurgen Klopp.
The midfielder made his breakthrough under the German’s guidance, but it’s perhaps under the new head coach at Anfield that he has enjoyed his best spell in the side so far. Not only that, but Jones has indicated at various times this season that he prefers life under Slot.
With the Dutchman in charge, Jones regularly finds himself in regular rotation with the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. He has already made 33 appearances across all competitions this season, leaving him just three off his total for the previous campaign - although he did have injury issues during Klopp’s final season.

Nevertheless, Jones has expressed a preference for life under Slot, and it didn’t take long for Klopp’s successor to make his impact.
"He's amazing," Jones told reporters during pre-season when asked about Slot. "It's probably the happiest I've been in terms of a style of play that suits me. It's a clear plan in training and he's fully involved, coaching us a lot.”
Jones has gone on to double down on his stance on a couple of occasions during the season, although there is still clearly respect for his former manager, with Klopp holding a lot of admiration for the academy graduate in return.
Speaking during 'Doubters to Believers Liverpool FC: Klopp's Era', the new documentary charting his time at Anfield, Klopp said of Jones: “He was never in doubt that he will make it, which I love that so much. It’s so different to my personality. I have no idea how I arrived here, he knows he’s absolutely in the right place.
“I always could understand the player. That they hated me if they didn’t come on or didn’t start, or whatever, because I was no different.
“So when I go and tell him ‘Curtis, you have to pass the ball more often’. And he has to learn that the ball from now on when he passes to whoever, James Milner, there’s a good chance he will do something special, or you’ll get it back.”
Jones also spoke about Klopp’s impact during the documentary, with the midfielder explaining his former boss’ impact on him during his early days in the senior team at Liverpool.
“I came into the team when they were going for Premier Leagues and Champions Leagues, and for weeks and months, there were times when I’d train every day. But I wouldn’t be in the squad or I’d be on the bench and I wouldn’t play,” Jones said.
“Jurgen was always the man who said ‘look, you need to do this, you need to do that, or do this, you need to adapt’.
“You know, I took it on my chin, and I was never shy to knock on his door, ask him ‘look, what am I doing? And how do I move the one who’s ahead of me out of the way?’”
