MANAGER Ivan Juric revealed he will give full-back Welington "a chance" on Saturday against Ipswich Town.

The boss confirmed the Brazillian defender will make his anticipated Saints debut this weekend having arrived from Sao Paulo this month.

Welington has had nearly a month to adjust to his new club and rebuild his fitness following an injury at the end of the Brazilian campaign.

Juric reiterated that Welington is ready to play in the Premier League having suggested it was "time" to play him following last weekend's defeat to Newcastle United.

Speaking on Thursday, he said: "Yeah, now I know him better. I think he trained very well, and I will give him a chance against Ipswich, either in the beginning or during the match.

"He has his characteristics, he's very technical, very intelligent. Sometimes I like to push him more, to attack a little bit more, but I think he can become a really good player for us.

"Normally I talk with the players and I was watching him for two or three weeks to see all the quality, and now I think he's starting to be ready."

Welington's 45-minute cameo for the under-21s earlier this month is his only appearance mid-October.
