Kai Havertz has sent the perfect Arsenal message to Mikel Arteta ahead of the January transfer window opening. The Germany international was back in midfield for the Premier League clash against Ipswich Town, but he was still able to make it two goals in as many games.

After Gabriel Jesus' header hit the post against Crystal Palace before Christmas, Havertz was in the right place at the right time to convert the rebound. Six days on, he found himself in a similar position with the Germany international diverting home Leandro Trossard's cross.

Those two strikes made it 12 goals for the season in all competitions and saw him hit a tally of 21 for this calendar year. While not exactly blowing anyone away, that is a very good return for a player that is not considered a striker.

Despite Havertz being in midfield for both games, two very different sides to Arsenal were on show. Though Palace were allowed to take 15 shots, with one of those flying beyond David Raya, Arteta's side completely blew them away by scoring five in response.

At home to Ipswich, however, Arsenal struggled to create bundles of chances and yet Raya was not required to make one save. Given his love for control, Arteta admitted he enjoyed the Ipswich game much more but that supporters would likely have a different view.

"In terms of how well we controlled the opposition 10 times because we conceded 14 or 15 shots against Palace and that’s not something that we normally do. Overall I think this one was much better yeah," he said. "But overall it’s about the goals and the beauty of it and entertaining people. One was probably better for them."

With Arteta favouring that defensive approach, creating and converting the limited chances Arsenal have is a must. The lack of an elite-level forward could see that become a challenge, but Havertz is again proving it is not a priority to sign an attacker any time soon.

On Instagram, having scored the decisive goal, Havertz uploaded a number of pictures from the win and captioned the post: "Capping off 2024 with a W! Thanks for all the support this year Gunners [red heart emoji]."

The injury to Bukayo Saka has seen Arteta asked about a possible January addition, but it appears as though he remains intent on covering for his absence with the players already at his disposal.

Earlier this week, he said: "My focus now, honestly, is just about with the squad that we have to be as competitive as we possibly can, and we have many, many options to do that, and if something unbelievable is available and the club is willing to do it, we’ll have to consider it."
