An organiser of The Spirit of ’69 protest group says he is "elated" by the turnout at a recent protest, as plans are made for more action in the future.

The protest group, which aims to voice members' dissatisfaction at the way Swindon Town Football Club is run, gathered outside the County Ground on Saturday, February 8, as part of its second day of action.

The event, which took place at 2.30pm, directly followed a draw for Swindon against Port Vale.

Despite the protest not lasting long, 200-250 football fans were estimated to have joined during the height of the event at the back of the Arkell's stand.

Organiser Rich Pullen told the Swindon Advertiser: "From our side of things it went very well.

"We were not sure how many people would show up to be honest but we were really encouraged by how many did."

He added: "We're absolutely elated, and we're definitely not ruling out more protests in the future.

"We will keep going for as long as we need to."

Wiltshire Police estimated that more than 600 Swindon fans attended the group’s first protest in December when they marched to Statue Park.

Since that protest, Swindon have lost just once, but co-founder Terry Pierce said that does not change the fact that the club is not being run well enough.

“From our point of view the turnaround in form is a good thing and it also doesn’t change our stance, it doesn’t appease us, and it doesn’t quieten us," he added.
