Kelechi Iheanacho primed to be a Celtic transfer smash hit as he's a maestro of Brendan Rodgers' 'golden rule'

Sevilla misfit Kelechi Iheanacho has been told he is free to choose his next club following their clash with Getafe amid interest from Celtic.

It's set to be a hectic finale to the transfer window for the Premiership champions with a striker top of the agenda following Kyogo Furuhashi's switch to Stade Rennes. Brondby's Mathias Kvistgaarden and David Strelec is on their radar but Brendan Rodgers now looks to have dipped into his contacts book in a bid to bring in the Nigeria international with deadline day fast approaching.

The Celtic boss worked with the player during his time at Leicester City and has previously talked up the frontman - making it clear during his time with the Foxes that the frontman understood his "golden rule". Speaking about the striker, he said: “He’s shown that he can score goals. I love that confidence. I love that ability to be able to do that. But of course, you want them to hit the target. That’s the golden rule as a striker, to hit the target."

Celtic No. 1 - then at Leicester City - Kasper Schmeichel has also lauded the frontman: "He's so good at the particular one where he shifts it and then puts it through the defender's legs and wrong-foots the goalkeeper. He's a nightmare in training."

The close relationship between the boss, his former skipper and Iheanacho could be the trump card with El Nacional reporting that clubs in Germany, England and Greece are also weighing up a deal. Celtic are said to be pursuing a loan with option to buy in the summer with a £2m price tag floated for the 28-year-old who made the switch to La Liga on a free in the summer.

Boss Garcia Pimienta has made it clear that Iheanacho will be allowed to head for the exit after making just nine appearances this term without scoring - but only following Saturday's action. Iheanacho was named on the bench for the clash with Getafe, but going into the game Pimienta said: “Kelechi Iheanacho has a lot of offers and absolute freedom to decide where he wants to go. He will be called up in any case."
