Sky Sports' Premier League presenter Kelly Cates is expected to keep her role with the broadcaster despite being confirmed as one of three replacements for Gary Lineker on the BBC's Match of the Day this week.

Last year, Lineker announced he would be stepping down from presenting Match of the Day's weekly highlights programme of the Premier League.

However, his exit from the BBC would be taken in stages as he would retain his presenting roles on live FA Cup matches and the upcoming World Cup in 2026.

Speculation had been mounting as to who would replace Lineker and in a surprise move the BBC confirmed this week that the role would be shared between Cates, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan.

Each presenter has had great experience of covering live sport and football with Chapman and Logan primarily working for the BBC.

However Cates, is primarily known to viewers as a host for Sky Sports where she covers the Premier League.

Albeit in midweek, she does host Radio Five Live's coverage during the season.

Due to Match of the Day being a time-consuming role that requires the presenter to work the full Saturday, there was some suggestions that Cates could leave Sky to work solely for the BBC.

However, CityAM reports that the 49-year-old will continue who hosting duties with Sky alongside her work on Match of the Day, which begins at the start of next season.

Speaking after her role on Match of the Day was confirmed, Cates said: "Once I sit in that chair and the theme music starts, I just know that’s going to be a really incredible moment.

"I’ve worked with a lot of the pundits before and they’re all fantastic, so I’m just looking forward to getting started.

"I’ve known Gabby and Mark really well for years so to bring it all together, embracing the digital side of things, it feels like a really comprehensive football package for fans and that’s what makes it so exciting too."
