Kevin De Bruyne is feeling better about his performance levels as he waits for crunch talks on his Manchester City future.

The club great is in his tenth season at the Etihad and his current deal runs out at the end of the season. De Bruyne shelved contract talks earlier in the campaign when what seemed like an innocuous injury turned into a hellish two-month absence that left the player in pain whenever he kicked a football.

City boss Pep Guardiola indicated that De Bruyne would have to show in the second half of the campaign why he deserved a new deal, and has delighted in the midfielder being back 'in his prime' in the last few games. The Belgian has picked up four assists in the last three Premier League games to add to an impressive record that means he has lost just one of the last 41 league games he has started.

This latest resurgence in form hasn't yet led to contract talks with the club, but De Bruyne is a lot happier about his game as the Blues look to put their mid-season slump behind them. Having got his game back to where he wants it to be, the 33-year-old is in a better place to think about what comes next.

“I've not spoken to them for the moment. I wanted to get better, I'm doing better, so I'm happy. We'll see, something will happen," he said.

"I feel better, obviously. It was an annoying injury that I had but I feel like I'm getting better and better, getting my fitness back and the way that I run."
