Kevin Nagle addresses Huddersfield Town transfer business and explains Michal Helik sale
Huddersfield Town owner Kevin Nagle admits he is “really excited” to see the impact that new strikers Joe Taylor and Dion Charles could have on the team.
The Terriers bolstered their frontline with the additions of the attacking duo, who were recruited from Luton Town and Bolton Wanderers respectively.
The pair were brought straight into the starting lineup for Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Blackpool, with Taylor netting on debut to start Town’s comeback from two goals down.

With chance conversion having been an issue for Town in the first half of the season, Nagle stressed the importance of adding firepower to the team with the two new signings.
“We had to do what we needed to do,” the Terriers’ owner said in his latest diary on X. “Michael (Duff) and his staff, they did a great job first half of the season, they got us in a really strong position. It was the right thing to do.
“We heard our fanbase, and just so they know, we knew all along that we needed some strikers, but it’s always good to hear your fanbase [say the same], it means they’re dialled in, they know the sport. We went out and I think we got two phenomenal strikers for the second half of the season, and the future.
“Dion and Joe, they’re going to do a great job. You already saw an impact player in Joe go in, and put one in in limited time, not the full match.
“You saw Dion on the pitch just wreaking havoc, making it very difficult for those players on the opposing team to stay with him, so I’m really, really excited.
“I think it’s going to take us a couple of matches to figure it all out, because we’ve got some new players that we brought in. There was a little bit of [discontinuation], because we gave up two goals early, but I think that Michael and his staff again, they look like they remedied that the second half, and I believe that on a going forward basis, we’re only going to get better.
“We’ve still got players that are almost coming off the injured list, and [will] be ready to play for the second half of the season.”
The Terriers also sought to strengthen at left wing-back at the start of the window, with Ruben Roosken brought in from Heracles Almelo. Nagle added: “I know our fanbase have not seen him play, they’re going to be really excited. He played at really top-tier football, and he’s going to help us. He’s going to be another impact player on the pitch.”
However, Town also suffered a blow on the transfer front at the back end of last week, with Michal Helik departing for Oxford United. Nagle insisted that the club were upholding an agreement with Helik that they would not stand in his way should a second-tier side come calling.
“I know that people were a little bit concerned in the fact that we let Michal Helik go, that was something that really was decided that if he had an opportunity to go to the Championship league, we wouldn’t block that, and the fact of the matter is it did,” the owner said.
“He’s been phenomenal to us, we need to be supportive of him, and so that decision was made. Could we have kept him on a one-year option? It’s just not fair if you did. The reality of it is that we made the agreement at the time.
"As you may know, what happens when we move from Championship to League One, everybody’s salaries get cut in half. Michal is also at an age where he doesn’t probably have a lot of years left playing football, and so we wanted to maximise that. He did a great job for us, but also at the same time, I think we’re staffed up pretty well on the side of the defence to really help us.”
