Lyall Cameron would not be a "bad signing" for Rangers - but a move for the Dundee star would only be "rectifying" past issues.

That is the view of Michael Stewart after Record Sport revealed the Light Blues are considering a move for Cameron as his contract ticks down at Dens Park. The Dark Blues have offered the 22-year-old a new deal and remain in talks over an extension, but it's understood there is growing interest in Cameron with Rangers keen on a deal.

But Stewart reckons that the interest only signals Ibrox chiefs are attempting to correct mistakes of previous seasons where the likes of Lewis Ferguson and Josh Doig left the Premiership for a shot at Europe. The former Hearts and Hibs man told the Premier Sports Social Club: “Not a bad signing. But what is smacks to me of is that the club recognising they’ve ignored the domestic market too much.

“But, with the greatest of respect to Lyall Cameron, I don’t think he’s nearly as good as some of the guys they’ve missed out on in the last four or five years. So it’s like they’re recognising their mistake and looking to rectify it with somebody that I think perhaps isn’t at the level of some of the ones they’ve missed out on.

“But the beauty of the domestic market is, with somebody like Lyall Cameron, you wouldn’t be having to spend a fortune. So even if he wasn’t to hit their heights, there’s not a lot lost. And you’ve got the UEFA aspect of having the domestic quality to hit the quotas that you need to hit in your squad."

Record Sport previously revealed that Nikola Katic is ready to leave FC Zurich return to Glasgow and answer Philippe Clement’s Rangers defensive crisis. And it appears that the Swiss side will not stand in the way of the Bosnia international making a move back to his former side.

Blick report that there are "plenty of options" for Katic to consider this month as he looks for "a new challenge abroad." Zurich will not put "any obstacles in his way" should a fee be agreed are a "promise" from the directors at the club over a January departure - after bids were turned down last summer.

One man who doesn't appear to be making a move to Govan is Watford's Ryan Porteous. The Hull Daily Mail report that Hull City are "continuing to work on a deal" and are confident of bringing in the former Hibs man amid swirls over a return to the Premiership.

In terms of outgoings, Cyriel Dessers hasbeen deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox after dropping down the pecking order following the rise of Hamza Igamane. Corriere dello Sport report that Cagliari see the 30-year-old as their top option this month as they prepare for veteran striker Gianluca Lapadula joining Spezia.

It is claimed that Dessers is the "favourite" option of the Italian strugglers. However, Empoli are said to be considering a "concrete" move and "a duel is underway" between the Italian rivals.
