Khvicha Kvaratskhelia deals Liverpool blow as Napoli 'close to transfer agreement'
Liverpool looks set to miss out on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this month, with reports suggesting Napoli is close to an agreement for the Georgia international’s exit.
Kvaratskhelia has long been linked with the Reds, and hopes that he would be making the move to Anfield were renewed just last week when The Athletic suggested Liverpool could consider a move for him. The report did say though that a player would likely have to be sold in order to facilitate the move.
Hopes were further raised when Napoli boss Antonio Conte confirmed Kvaratskhelia had asked to leave the club, having already tried to move on during the summer.

“He asked the club to be sold, without mincing his words,” Conte said. “This is what was said to me, the player has confirmed his decision to me.
“Personally I feel very disappointed, because I spent six months trying to make Kvara feel at the centre of the project, working with him, showing him that we could do something great and also working with the club for six months on the renewal.
Since then though, Paris Saint-Germain has emerged as the frontrunner to sign Kvaratskhelia, and now it seems the French club is closing in on a deal. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, a ‘full verbal agreement’ is close with Napoli, with personal terms on a contract until 2029 having already been agreed with the player.
What’s more, Jacobs has previously claimed that PSG is optimistic it can sign the 23-year-old for less than Napoli’s original $82m (£67m/€80m) asking price.
When asked about the speculation around Kvaratskhelia, Liverpool boss Arne Slot played down suggestions of a signing: "What I make of that, is that it's January. I said after the West Ham game, don't disappoint me, please come up with all these clubs and all these players who we are interested in!
“99 per cent of times at the end of the window, it ends up that all of these stories aren't true. The rumors keep coming, but no comment from my side."
Liverpool.com says: There’s no other way of dressing it up other than to say missing out on Kvaratskhelia is a big disappointment. There does seem to be a regular pattern emerging now with Liverpool being linked with players, before fans quickly have their hopes dashed.
