Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna said that it would be a fair statement to describe Liverpool as the best team in the world on this season's form.

The Reds sit at the top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables and are still in both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

It's been a remarkable season considering the magnitude of the managerial change which took place at Anfield last summer, with Arne Slot arriving as head coach following the exit of the legendary Jurgen Klopp.

The campaign began with a trip to Ipswich in August, when nobody quite knew what to expect from Liverpool under its new leader. After a slow start, the Reds won 2-0 at Portman Road, and they have picked up 47 points from a possible 60 in the Premier League since, impressing Ipswich boss McKenna in the process.

“They’ve been fantastic," McKenna said ahead of his side's trip to Anfield this weekend, in quotes carried by the East Anglian Daily Times. "It’s been enjoyable to watch how they've developed. They were very good in pre-season. When we analysed them before the opening game (a 2-0 home defeat) and you could see that he (Arne Slot) had really managed to get his imprint on the team very quickly. They’ve carried that right the way through the season."

Asked whether Liverpool is the world's current best team, McKenna joked: “It didn’t feel like that at five o’clock last Sunday! (after a 6-0 home loss to Man City)."

Providing a more serious response, he added: “That's certainly a fair statement though. The Premier League is the strongest league in the world, they’ve been the best team in the Premier League this season and have shown outstanding qualities in all phases. And I think they’ve been the most impressive team I’ve seen in the Champions League as well."

In a press conference which featured plenty of Liverpool chat, McKenna was also asked whether Mohamed Salah is the best player in Premier League history. The Northern Irishman gave a diplomatic answer as he recalled analyzing Salah ahead of a match between Liverpool and Manchester United during his spell as a first-team coach at Old Trafford.

“He’s certainly one of the best players in the history of the Premier League," McKenna said. "He’s been incredibly consistent for so many years and has gone from strength to strength.

“I analysed him maybe four, five, six years ago with Man United as a first team coach and I see him today and he’s probably stronger now, certainly no weaker, than he was then."
