Celtic 'plot' Kieran Tierney transfer homecoming as Arsenal swerve contract option to seal summer exit
Brendan Rodgers will push to try and seal an emotional Celtic return for Kieran Tierney.
The Scotland international has been told by Arsenal that they won’t be taking up the additional option in his contract, which means Tierney will become a free agent at the end of the season. KT has never hidden his desire to one day head back to his boyhood heroes and Rodgers has remained in contact with the 27-year-old.
The writing has been on the wall for Tierney for some time with the Gunners, although he did play 70 minutes before he came off in last night’s EFL Cup semi-final win over Crystal Palace. That was a rare outing for the Scot, as he has struggled for fitness and game time. The Scotland star also spent last season on loan at Spanish side Real Sociedad.

Tierney is unlikely to be short of options in England and across Europe and it will all depend on whether he wants to return to Scotland sooner rather than later. He left Celtic in 2019 for Arsenal for a fee of around £25 million. The Parkhead academy graduate will now be allowed to leave the Emirates for free in the summer, unless they agree a deal in January for him to depart early.
Celtic have been on the hunt for a left-back with Greg Taylor’s contract up in the summer and Alex Valle currently on a season-long loan from Barcelona. The Scottish champions are also keen to bring in another left winger in this window to provide back up for Daizen Maeda, with Luis Palma likely to be on his way out.
