Arsenal face Girona on Wednesday at the Estadi Montilivi looking to end their Champions League first phase run in style and confirm their progress to the last-16 of the competition. With a monumental clash against Manchester City at the weekend, there is certainly emphasis on rotation.

The boost for Mikel Arteta is the return of both Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino who missed the trip to Wolves. However, there remains no sign of Ben White or Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Rotation is expected with the likes of Kieran Tierney and perhaps even goalkeeper Neto, who is yet to make an appearance for the club, getting an opportunity. With that in mind football.london gives their thoughts on who they would start in Europe.

Rotation, that is the word of the day for me as I look to somehow find a way to rest key figures ahead of the game against Manchester City on the weekend. David Raya may not need a rest, but getting some minutes in for Neto, after waiting so long, is surely something that is sorely needed.

Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard are the key players who I think need to find a way of being given as little exposure as possible – although perhaps the captain needs some minutes after missing the weekend through illness. Therefore Thomas Partey, Jakub Kiwior and Kieran Tierney join Gabriel Magalhaes in the back four.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, available after his controversial red card at the weekend, moves into his natural midfield role to play alongside Jorginho and Mikel Merino. Up top, Leandro Trossard starts through the middle with both Ethan Nwaneri and Raheem Sterling on the flanks to rest both Havertz and Martinelli.

Canton’s Arsenal XI vs Girona: Neto; Partey, Kiwior, Gabriel, Tierney; Jorginho, Lewis-Skelly, Merino; Nwaneri, Sterling, Trossard.

An Arsenal ever-present dropped! It might sound sensationalist, but it's really more a case of: if it doesn't happen now, then it's unlikely Neto will ever represent the Gunners.

He starts in goal to give David Raya a break after some impressive performances recently. In defence, I think there could be a couple of changes, but still a couple of dilemmas. William Saliba returned from injury last time out after a hamstring issue, so it could be an opportunity to rest him once more.

I think I'd be tempted to give Gabriel a break instead, though, and give Saliba an hour or so to get some fluency back and make sure he's at the right level for Man City at the weekend.

I'll start Thomas Partey at right-back with Saliba and Jakub Kiwior in the centre, and Myles Lewis-Skelly is back in after his horror-tackle at the weekend.

In midfield, Mikel Merino starts alongside Ethan Nwaneri and Jorginho. The Spanish midfielder needs minutes after returning to training this week, but I'm not rushing Martin Odegaard back after his injury issues this season; this affords Declan Rice a well-earned rest before the clash against Pep Guardiola's side.

In attack, I'm giving Kai Havertz a rest as well. He can't play every minute between now and the end of the season, and opportunities are running out to give him a break. I'm going Gabriel Martinelli on the left, with Raheem Sterling on the right and Leandro Trossard as a false nine in the middle.

Joe's XI: Neto; Partey, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly; Jorginho, Merino, Nwaneri; Martinelli, Sterling, Trossard.
