Danny Greenfield’s strike inside 10 minutes was cancelled out by Jonny Margetts’ penalty deep into first-half stoppage time, meaning the two teams gained a point apiece at The Walks after an end-to-end encounter, writes Kieran Wilson.

Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson made one change to our starting eleven from midweek as George Glendon reclaimed his place in the centre of the park, and there was a welcome return to the bench for Regan Riley, who was named amongst the squad for the first time since the start of October following a lengthy spell out with injury.

On the 10-minute mark, Greenfield converted his third goal for the club since his November arrival from Farsley Celtic. The midfielder received possession 25 yards out from goal before getting the ball out of his feet and unleashing a powerful, low shot into the bottom left corner of the net, putting Radcliffe ahead after a bright start.

Moments later, Jordan Hulme’s chested effort found the side netting via George Glendon’s cross, before Josh Hancock turned his man and fired towards the target, seeing his attempt collected by Paul Jones down the centre of the goal after 20 minutes.

The hosts were finding chances hard to come by, but towards the end of the half they unlocked a golden opportunity, before eventually finding the back of the net.

With 38 minutes on the clock, Finlay Armstrong’s cross from the left-hand side set the ball up on a plate for Ross Crane to tap home from close range, to Radcliffe’s relief however, his shot could only cannon off the right post and Scott Duxbury managed to clear the danger.

Deep into first-half stoppage time, King’s Lynn were rewarded with a chance to restore parity only seconds before the break after Matt Sargent’s challenge on Sam Walker was deemed to be a foul, allowing the referee to point to the spot after a moment of thought.

Mateusz Hewelt guessed the right way but the penalty from Jonny Margetts was too powerful, and too accurate to be kept out as the former Matlock Town man thumped into the bottom left corner of the net, taking the two teams into half-time on level terms.

Chances for Glendon, Hancock and Hulme in the opening minutes meant Radcliffe started the second half in a similar vain to which they started the first, and the introduction of Blackburn Rovers loanee Harrison Wood gave the Boro much-needed energy in the final third as the clock ticked to find a winner.

Duxbury almost netted another trademark strike from distance after finding space to test his luck on 73 minutes, his moving shot was well held by the King’s Lynn goalkeeper who watched the ball all the way before gathering to regain possession.

Adam Lakeland’s team were wondering how they weren’t ahead with only minutes of the 90 remaining, as a gilt-edged chance went begging in search of a winning goal in the dying embers.

Brad Jackson’s miscued clearance on the edge of his own box fell kindly to Josh Hmami who drilled the ball straight at Hewelt before prodding wide on the rebound, taking both efforts in a pocket of space to pick his spot but the 24-year-old couldn’t keep his cool with the final chance of the game.

Four added minutes weren’t enough for either team to create drama late on, as Radcliffe added a point to their league tally which takes the Boro up to 19th in the table, and out of the relegation zone once more.

Boro are back on the road this evening (Tuesday) at the Scarborough Sports Village to take on Scarborough Athletic.
