Isle of Wight golfer Brandon Robinson Thompson secured third place at the DP World Tour’s Qatar Masters, held at Doha Golf Club.

Continuing his strong form, Brandon earned £126,000 for his efforts in Doha, adding to the £41,000 he won at the Bahrain Championship in January.

Brandon started strong, sharing the first-round lead with Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen after a superb six-under-par 66.

The highlight of his round was a stunning 60-foot birdie putt on the eighth, his penultimate hole.

In the second round, Brandon took control with a flawless four-under-par 68, including birdies at the eighth and tenth holes, as well as an eagle on the par-four 16th.

His tee shot landed just four feet from the pin, and he tapped in for an eagle, moving to ten under par.

His round set a challenging clubhouse target that no afternoon starter could match, giving him a two-shot lead.

In the third round, Brandon lost his lead to three-time DP World Tour winner Haotong Li of China.

Brandon carded a one-under 71 to move to 11 under, placing second entering the third day.

Haotong quickly erased Brandon’s overnight lead with early birdies.
Brandon remained steady but struggled to make birdies, his only bogey coming at the sixth hole.

A crucial birdie on the 16th kept him in contention, and he showed resilience at the 18th, closing the gap to two shots.

Ultimately, in the fourth round, Haotong won, with Neergaard-Petersen finishing second, two strokes ahead of Brandon, who finished at 13 under.

Following the tournament, Brandon expressed gratitude to his supporters, posting: “Thanks for all the messages and support from the last couple of weeks.

“Doha Golf Club was amazing for the Qatar Masters, and I loved being in contention again.

“What a feeling. I’m close, and I know my time is coming!

“A week off, then back at it in Kenya.”

Next, Brandon will compete in the Kenya Open at Muthaiga Golf Club from February 20-23.
