Kristers Tobers reckons the 3,000 strong Red Army helped Aberdeen to get back to winning ways in the Premiership.

Now he wants to repay them by giving them something to shout about come the end of the season. The Dons support travelled south in their numbers and helped the Dons to win their first league game in 15 against Dundee last weekend.

Tobers admitted: “I think the players need the support when it's the hardest times, so that's really important for us. It really means a lot to us that the fans, even in harder periods when it's not going so well for the team, they are coming and supporting us.

“I think that's really crucial for us as a team to be together, and when fans are supporting us in away games, 3,000 fans, it's just really amazing and I'm grateful that our fans are supporting us. It puts a little bit of responsibility as well for us that they are driving from their homes and then maybe on a free Saturday or Sunday.

“They are spending their time and then supporting us, it just puts us a little bit more responsibility to play also for them and just at least somehow pay back with a performance.”

The ambition for Aberdeen is to return to Europe and they will want to remain in their current third place. Tobers admitted the win at Dundee, which took them back above Dundee United, was important in terms of their season. Now he knows the importance of backing that up with another win, this time at home against Kilmarnock.

The Latvian International stated: “It is more positive inside the team. The guys are happy and we are looking to build from that.

“It is important and a relief for all the players to get a win. It was a hard game away but it was important to get three points. We need to keep building and hopefully it will be another three points on Saturday.”

Tobers is part of a defence that very much has a new-look about it. He, Alexander Jensen and Mats Knoester all arrived last month and have brought a bit of much-need stability. They have all gelled quickly.

The 24-year-old claimed: “Yeah, to be honest, it has been really natural. To be honest, it's a bit surprising how well it's been.

“It was so easy, everybody understands what they need to do, everybody understands what are some of the guys' strengths, what are the weaknesses, so how we can implement each other, how we can help each other. So, I think that's really good.

“Of course, it takes a little bit of time to get used to each other and adjust to some players as well, but I think overall, I think from game to game, we are improving our defensive line as well.”
