Kyle Walker is in Milan to finalise a loan until the end of the season that could be made permanent in the summer.

Walker asked City to leave earlier this month and has not featured since his omission from the home win over West Ham. With 18 months left on his contract, Walker has secured a temporary move to AC Milan, who will have an option to buy the England defender in the summer for a reported £4.2m. It is also claimed Milan will cover his salary for the duration of the loan.

If the option is not taken, then Walker will return to City for the final year of his contract unless he finds an alternative exit route. However it seems that terms could have been agreed for a permanent transfer to the San Siro as Italian media report that Walker would get a salary of €4m per year until 2027.

That would represent a pay cut on his reported wage at City, but would hand him an extra year on his current contract at the Etihad and a chance to prolong his career until he is 37.

He is seven appearances short of 100 for England, which would make him only the third defender to reach a century of caps and the 11th man to do so.

Milan are struggling in eighth in Serie A but are well-placed to finish in the top eight in the Champions League - where Walker will be eligible to play for his new club after the League Phase. So he will be ineligible for their final fixture against Dinamo Zagreb where a win will secure a last-16 spot, but can then be registered from any potential play-off round onwards.

Walker was seen arriving in the Italian city ahead of a medical and finalising terms on his loan deal on Thursday after terms were agreed between AC and City.
