Kylian Mbappe 'agreed to join Liverpool' after huge transfer betrayal

Kylian Mbappe agreed to join Liverpool before eventually deciding to extend his stay at Paris Saint-Germain two years ago, according to reports in France.

Mbappe finally left PSG this summer in a blockbuster free transfer to Real Madrid.

However, French newspaper L’Equipe claim Mbappe could have ended up at Liverpool after asking to leave the club in 2022.

In May 2022, Mbappe signed a big-money contract keeping him at the Parc des Princes for a further two years, with an option for a third year.

However, just months later he felt ‘betrayed’ by the PSG project at what he considered to be unfulfilled promises in the transfer market.

Bernardo Silva and Robert Lewandowski were expected to join but didn’t, with the club instead bringing in Vitinha, Renato Sanches, Fabian Ruiz and Hugo Ekitike on loan.

Mbappe reportedly asked to leave the club before the end of the transfer window and missed the opening game of the season - a 5-0 win over Clermont - after requesting to be left out.

Both Liverpool and Real Madrid were interested in signing the former Monaco ace, but the Reds’ reported £170million offer was rejected.

Eventually, Mbappe resolved his problems at PSG and stayed for a further two years before leaving for Real Madrid.

But he has admitted in the past he has spoken with Liverpool, saying: “We talked a little bit, but not too much.

“I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favorite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her.

“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”
