Ladies sports teams net new match dresses thanks to local generosity
Ladies at Helston Netball Club received an early Christmas present when their three senior teams took delivery of new match dresses.
The bespoke dresses have been designed by Redruth-based company A Game Sports Ltd, made possible because, for the first time in its history, the club successfully secured sponsorship for the 2024/25 season.
Club secretary Zoe Trerise first announced the opportunity on the the club's social media in the summer, and said: “We were unsure initially as its not something we’ve done before, and netball isn’t a sport that’s advertised much, but we’ve been blown away and so grateful to have the support of so many local businesses."
Their fortunate streak doesn’t end there, however, as recently they were also awarded funding from the Helston Town Council Community Grant that enabled a much-needed upgrade to their netball posts, which were sadly beyond repair.
Founding member Rachel Jones joked: "We are so excited to finally have new posts that are straight - though we may have to learn to shoot again!”
In a special training session before Christmas, members were delighted to be joined by Helston's mayor and mayoress, Miles and Anne Kenchington, together with their sponsors, and local photographers John Martin and JQ Photography, in which they celebrated the club's recent success.
Having first formed in 2016, the club is now considered one of the largest netball clubs in West Cornwall, and continue to grow from strength to strength.
One of their sponsors, local business owner Rob Blythman, said: “ I am fortunate enough to be able to sponsor this fantastic club. After years of the community backing my business, I feel very privileged to be able to re-invest into the community.
"Sport, at any age, is a fantastic opportunity for people's physical and mental health. I hope the ladies here believe in themselves as much as we the community, believe in them!“
The club would like to take this opportunity to publicly extend its gratitude to the Inn & Still, Anytime Booking, Elsyian Fields, Rob Blythman Tree Surgery & Garden Maintenance, GH Surfacing & Groundworks, The Logan Rock Inn, and Helston Town Council for their support and generosity.
If starting a new hobby or getting fitter is on your New Year’s resolution list, you can find more details of the club's casual sessions, open to everybody, and how to join them on the Helston Netball Club Facebook/Instagram page, or send an email to helstonnetballclub@gmail.com
