Nine Lanark Amateur Swimming Club swimmers took three medals from the Scottish Schools Championships in Aberdeen.

The standout swim was from Lanark Grammar’s Craig Shaw, who won the 17/19 boys’ 100m breaststroke title in a time of 1.07.60, his first ever at that level, and broke Jack McComish’s long-standing record.

Shaw was also fourth in 200m.

Katie Towers, also representing Lanark Grammar, won two bronze medals in 100m and 200m breaststroke.

Other results were:

Clara Taylor (12 and under, St Mary’s Primary) 16th in 50m butterfly.

Sarah Purdon (12 and under, Law Primary) 13th in 50m backstroke.

Emily Taylor (13/14, Lanark Grammar) fifth in 100m and 200m fly.

Orlaith Jeffrey (15/16, St Aidan’s High) ninth in 200m fly, sixth in 200m IM.

Lucy Taylor (15/16, Lanark Grammar) 11th in 100m freestyle.

Luke Devlin (17/19, Lanark Grammar) 10th in 100m freestyle.

Malcolm Ormrod (17/19, St Aloysius College) seventh in 200m back, 10th in 100m back.

Lanark ASC head coach Karen Kelly said: “Our nine swimmers should be proud of their efforts in Aberdeen.

“Craig wasn’t seeded to medal. He attacked the swim and fully merited winning his first ever Scottish Schools title.

“Katie swam well to take two third-place podium finishes.”

Evi Mackie, 15, competed for the Scottish national youth team at the three-day Challenge International de Geneva meet.

Mackie finished sixth in the women’s 800m freestyle event and set new club records in 100m, 200m and 800m freestyle.

Karen Kelly said: “In Geneva, Evi put in three solid days’ swimming against some very good European swimmers and did well to post three new personal best times.”
