Lanarkshire Karate Academy medal at Meadowbank Kumite Championships

Youngsters from Lanarkshire Karate Academy got the new year off to a flying start with a host of medal wins at the Meadowbank Kumite Championships earlier this month.

On February 1, the Airdrie-based club took their students to the Meadowbank Sports Centre for their opening event of 2025 and they excelled with six gold medals and six silvers for their efforts.

The medallists were as follows:

Gold – Emmie McEwan, Dominic Griniuk, Maahi Rai, Anna Smith, Caleb Kerrigan and Nell McAuley.

Silver – Sebastian Magilton, Daniel McPake, Robyn Gemmell, Keir McGeachy, Ziva Alexander and Jodi Warwick.

The club is run by Sensei Chantelle Allan and she was over the moon with the performances from her students.

She said: “Congratulations to all our medal winners and all of our competitors who took part in the first event of the year.

“Nice work, but straight back to it at the dojo as the preparations continue for the next one in a few weeks time.

“I’m proud of you, as always.”

LKA run weekly sessions and are inclusive for everyone age 4 years-old and above.
