Huddersfield Town defender Nigel Lonwijk is set to miss the next “six to eight” weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Wolves loanee had to come off early on in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Rotherham United after sustaining the setback, with the centre-back now not expected to return until at least the latter part of February.

David Kasumu is also set to be ruled out for the next few weeks, with the midfielder also picking up a hamstring injury in training.

“I think Nigel’s probably a six to eight week job,” head coach Michael Duff said. “Kas not as much, probably more two to four weeks, not as serious, with the way they grade the scans and things like that. Nigel’s is a slighter bigger tear, and it’s got a little bit of tendon involved in it as well, so that generally adds to the length of time.

“They’re alright in themselves, obviously disappointed, but we won’t be seeing them for a while.”

Duff confirmed in the build up to Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers that Michal Helik wasn’t in the squad due to illness. The head coach said the centre-back would be assessed heading into tomorrow's fixture at Shrewsbury Town to see whether he can feature.

“He was in this morning (Thursday),” Duff said. “The lads that have had the illness, it’s sort of knocked them for six for a week, and he’s a couple of days in. He said he’s never felt as bad in his life for 24 hours because he was that bad, but he’s in.

“He didn’t train today, so we’ll assess him tomorrow, but the fact he’s in the building is a positive, because a few of the other lads were four or five days completely out of the building, and then they’ve got to build themselves up. He’ll do a bit tomorrow, and we’ll see how he feels after that [as to] whether he can be involved or not.”

Brodie Spencer and Josh Koroma both had to be withdrawn during Tuesday’s victory. Providing an update on the pair, Duff said: “Brodie’s having a scan today, so we’ll wait and see what that is. We don’t think it’s anything serious, but obviously Brodie’s a tough kid, for him to come off the pitch, something wasn’t quite right, so that doesn’t look great, but nothing too sinister we don’t think.

“Josh’s is more of a fatigue feeling up in his hip, which is transferring into his groin. It’s not a pulled muscle, but he was feeling something, so again we’ll have to assess that one and see whether he can play or he can’t. We’ll make a late decision on that one.”
