Latest Tottenham injury news as six miss Liverpool with Ange Postecoglou handed double dilemma

Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou is facing some major dilemmas ahead of Liverpool courtesy of Tottenham's injury list. During the North London Derby defeat to Arsenal, Spurs lost Timo Werner to a muscular issue with Postecoglou revealing the severity of his injury before also confirming a fresh fitness blow.

"Unfortunately we've had a couple of issues from the game. Timo with his hamstring obviously so we've got two-and-a-half weeks to go so he'll miss the rest of the season," the Tottenham boss said earlier this week. "Ben Davies has got a calf injury and he's out of the game and he'll probably miss the rest of the season as well."

As a result, Emerson Royal and Richarlison were brought into the starting XI however the Brazilian duo struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge. Despite the poor defeat, one potential positive to come out of the clash involved the latest injury news.

"Short turnaround so hard to say," Postecoglou said when asked for injury updates before Liverpool. "Obviously a few of the lads still feeling the effects of the game. I'll have a better picture this afternoon - I don't think, knock on wood, anything significant came out of it (the Chelsea game)."

The Lilywhites now head to Anfield off the back of three consecutive defeats but perhaps thankfully for Postecoglou, Liverpool are without a victory in as many games. Injury problems are also plaguing Jurgen Klopp with Diogo Jota still unavailable, while defensive duo Conor Bradley and Virgil van Dijk are huge doubts.

In north London, with hope that everyone came through the Chelsea game unscathed, Postecoglou's list of absentees will remain at six. Werner and Davies recently joined Destiny Udogie as missing through a muscular issue in a treatment room that already consisted of Fraser Forster, Manor Solomon and Ryan Sessegnon.

Even though three new injuries have arrived in the last few weeks, Postecoglou's starting XI is far from decided given the recent string of poor performances. Emerson simply could not come close to the performance levels of Destiny Udogie which should tempt Postecoglou into at least thinking about a defensive change.

The only serious option for that role would be Micky van de Ven which would mean Radu Dragusin comes into defence. In attack, with numerous positional changes made ahead of the game and throughout, actually building some consistency is quite difficult.

Dejan Kulusevski did little to prove his case in a central role which likely means a return for James Maddison with the Sweden international likely to come out of the starting XI. Brennan Johnson, Richarlison and Son Heung-min continuing as the front three is likely especially with some of Spurs' best attacking performances coming with that trio on the pitch.
