West Brom next manager latest with new favourite after Raphael Wicky move collapses
West Bromwich Albion continue their pursuit of a new head coach following Carlos Corberan's departure - more than three weeks after the Spaniard returned to Spain to take up the managerial role of his boyhood club Valencia. Corberan departed The Hawthorns on Christmas Eve, after more than two years in charge of the Baggies, and Albion have formed an interim coaching unit who have overseen proceedings since.
The heavy FA Cup defeat at Premier League Bournemouth on Saturday was fully expected to be the final match in charge for the team of Chris Brunt, Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill, who guided the club to a victory over Preston North End, draws at Sheffield United and Swansea City and a narrow Boxing Day defeat at Derby County.
It's likely now, though, after the collapsing of the deal which was set to see Raphael Wicky appointed the club's new boss, that that trio will be in charge again when Albion host Stoke City this coming weekend. In the meantime, with the transfer window also in full flow and Albion in need of reinforcements, the club's hierarchy are pressing on with identifying and recruiting the next man who can take charge.
