WESTFIELDS were made to pay for two mistakes as runaway Hellenic Premier leaders Hartpury University clinched a 2-0 victory at Allpay Park.

Hartpury were in dominant mood from the kick-off and seized on a ninth minute opportunity to open the scoring.

Dan Stoneman played a poor pass on the edge of his own penalty area and Billy Osborn intercepted the pass and beat goalkeeper Kerion Blackburn.

Westfields found it hard to break through the Students defence as the visitors went in 1-0 up at the break

After the interval Westfields conceded an early penalty when Blackburn fouled Osborn in the penalty area and Hartpury skipper Liam King increased the Students lead from the penalty spot.

Westfields should have been back in the game in the 65th minute when Owen Taylor put Stoneman through on goal, but the winger put his effort inches past the far post.

Hartpury nearly increased their lead when Osborn hit a cracking 25-yard shot which Westfields substitute goalkeeper Shay Sterry produced a flying save to palm the ball away.

Despite working hard Westfields could not get a goal to get back into the game.

Meanwhile, a last-minute Lewis Rose goal resulted in Hereford Pegasus taking a 4-3 home victory against Lydney Town.

Isaac Cooper and Harrison Summers goals had given Pegasus a two-goal advantage at half-time.

However relegation threatened Lydney came fighting back and were level after 65 minutes thanks to goal from Mike Symonds and Lee Smith.

Jordan Williams regained Peggy the lead only for Lewis Pinchard to level for Lydney nine minutes from time.

Pegasus had the final say and Rose secured a 10th league win of the season to cut the gap to Westfields to three points, with Fields having played three games less.

Meanwhile, in Division One, Wellington went goal crazy running out 9-0 winners over Southam United as Samuel Griffiths scored a hat-trick, Levi Ellis a brace and further goals for Luke Bufton, Carlos Moreira, Daniel Olaloko and Joshua Harrison.

Westfields gave a battling performance last Tuesday night to produce a 2-2 draw with Fairford Town.

Fairford got off to a great start when Charlie Holliday put them ahead with only five minutes on the clock.

Westfields were under early pressure and Kerion Blackburn saved brilliantly from Holliday.

The save was made more important when Fields drew level after Ryan Hillier shot through a crowded goalmouth to make it 1-1.

However, the visitors were in front again within a minute when the powerful Holliday beat the goalkeeper with a fierce drive.

After the break Blackburn made an important save within a minute of the restart when Holiday was clean through on goal.

Gradually Westfields got into their stride and Ryan Hillier blasted in an equaliser from 15 yards with 70 minutes on the clock.

Fields could have clinched all three points as both Stoneman and Zac Powell had shots blocked.

Fairford had their moments but were denied by home defender Cam Davies, who twice made timely clearances.
