Out-of-form League Two club Fleetwood Town have sacked head coach Charlie Adam.

The former Rangers and Liverpool man has become the latest fourth-tier boss to lose his job this season.

A run of poor results, the latest being a 2-0 defeat at Barrow on Saturday, has seen the club act.

Adam, who had been in charge for nearly a year, leaves Fleetwood in 18th position, eight points above the relegation zone where Carlisle United are second bottom.

They have won just one of their last 11 league games, drawing five and losing five in that time.

That followed a more positive start to the 2024/25 campaign with the opening months seeing a 6-2 victory at Walsall, as well as a 3-2 win at Carlisle in September, at a time the Blues were under the caretaker management trio of Steven Rudd, Mark Birch and Jamie Devitt.

Fleetwood said it was time for a change.

"Fleetwood Town can confirm Charlie Adam has left the club with immediate effect," a statement said.

Owner Jamie Pilley said: “I’d like to personally thank Charlie for his commitment and professionalism over the last 12 months.

“He’s been a pleasure to work with but recent results meant we felt a change was necessary.

“I wish him well for the future.”

Fleetwood said they would "issue a further update on the first team staff in due course."

The club's poor run has risked dragging them into the relegation battle.

They have two home games after Christmas, hosting Chesterfield and Harrogate Town on Boxing Day and December 29 respectively.

Carlisle's next encounter with the Cod Army comes at the Highbury Stadium in League Two on Saturday, January 25.
