Some of the latest news and gossip from around Carlisle United’s division…

MAGPIES STAR SET FOR MK

MK Dons are expected to seal a move for Notts County midfield star Dan Crowley.

The 27-year-old, who impressed in Notts’ 2-0 win at Brunton Park this season, looks set to switch League Two clubs according to reports.

Crowley has been at Meadow Lane for a year and a half but is poised to move from the division’s sixth-placed club to the side in 11th.

DONS LAND BROWNE

AFC Wimbledon have made attacking midfielder Marcus Browne their latest addition.

Boss Johnnie Jackson has moved to bring in the former Middlesbrough and Oxford United man, who was a free agent.

“This team is in a great position,” he told the Dons website. “While everything is moving forward, I feel I can bring my qualities and help propel the club even further up the table, and be in and around it at the end of the season.”

VALIANTS BRING IN KEEPER

Promotion-chasing Port Vale have brought in goalkeeper Nathan Broome on loan from Championship side Swansea City until the end of the season.

The former AFC Wimbledon man will provide competition at a time No1 Connor Ripley is absent on paternity leave.

“Once Connor returns to the club from his paternity leave, he will take a number of weeks to get back to what we deem as match-ready, so having Nathan with us will prove vital for us as we progress into the second half of the campaign,” manager Darren Moore told the club website.

NOTTS SEAL DOUBLE DEAL

Notts County have been busy in the market with two new signings through the door already this week.

Sunderland defender Zak Johnson has signed on loan while Everton forward Charlie Whitaker has linked up with the Magpies permanently.

On Whitaker, director Richard Montague said: "Charlie has demonstrated a genuine goal threat throughout his youth career and has the technical ability, pace and tenacity to be a real handful.”

LEADERS EYEING EAGLE

League Two leaders Walsall are reportedly eyeing a young Crystal Palace attacking prospect.

The Saddlers are said to be monitoring 18-year-old Hindolo Mustapha.

The South London Press say Sierra Leone international Mustapha, who has impressed in Premier League 2, could head to the Poundland Bescot Stadium, where Stoke City loan star Nathan Lowe has just been recalled.

STRIKER COULD RETURN TO ESSEX

Colchester United boss Danny Cowley has not ruled out a return for Anthony Scully despite the loan frontman heading back to Portsmouth.

Injury limited the Pompey man to nine appearances in the first half of the League Two season.

Cowley, speaking to The Gazette, said: “Anthony has gone back to Portsmouth, which I think was the right thing for all parties really. [But] we’re hoping that Anthony might come back to us.”

DONNY MOVE FOR LEEDS PROSPECT

Doncaster Rovers are set to add Leeds United midfielder Charlie Crew to their promotion challenge.

The Yorkshire Evening Post say the 18-year-old is wanted by Donny boss Grant McCann.

Crew made his first team debut for the Elland Road club this season but a loan move is set to offer him further senior experience.

BLUEBIRDS LOAN OUT DEFENDER

Barrow’s latest transfer window business has seen defender Mazeed Ogungbo head out of Holker Street on loan.

The 22-year-old former Arsenal man has joined National League South side Hemel Hempstead Town for the rest of the campaign.

“We look forward to seeing Mazeed in a Tudor shirt, and wish him well in his stay at the club,” Hemel Hempstead announced.

DEFENDER SET FOR ROBINS DEPARTURE

Southampton loan defender Lewis Payne is poised to move on from Cheltenham Town.

GloucestershireLive report that the right-back, 20, is set to leave Michael Flynn’s squad after making 22 appearances this season.

Payne will return to his Premier League parent club as they weigh up his next move.

SPIREITES SIGNING EYES WORLD CUP

Chesterfield’s new striker has his eyes on the 2026 World Cup as well as success with the Spireites.

Bim Pepple has linked up with Paul Cook’s squad on loan from Luton Town, having spent the first half of the season with Southend United.

The Canada youth international, speaking via the Derbyshire Times, said: “With the World Cup coming up in 2026, Canada are hosting and it’s a goal of mine to be on that plane. I know what kind of level I need to be playing at to make it a possibility.”

ADAMS CALLS FOR UNITY

Derek Adams, the Morecambe manager, has called on everyone at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium to pull together in their survival fight.

The Shrimps, who lost 5-0 at Chelsea in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, are five points from safety, and two points above bottom-placed Carlisle United.

“There was a real togetherness at Chelsea and it was a great occasion for everyone at the club, the players, the staff and the fans who were brilliant,” Adams told the Lancaster Guardian. “We are going to need them behind us over the next few months and we will need everyone pulling together.”

EXILES IN MIDFIELD HUNT

Newport County are likely to move to strengthen their midfield after losing Newcastle United loanee Jamie Miley.

He has been recalled by the Magpies after an injury-hit half a season in south Wales.

The South Wales Argue report that Exiles head coach Nelson Jardim is down to four fit specialist midfielders, none of whom are greatly experienced in the EFL.
