Chelsea forward Jadon Sancho believes the squad can achieve 'something big' after their superb start to the campaign. The Manchester United loanee has also revealed that he supported the Blues during his childhood - owing it to iconic duo Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.

After a slow start at Stamford Bridge, the 24-year-old has found his place in Enzo Maresca's first-team. In three of Chelsea's last five outings, Sancho has scored two goals and provided an assist helping the Blues move to within two points of Premier League leaders Liverpool and take a comfortable lead at the UEFA Conference League summit.

It has been claimed that Chelsea will be obligated to make Sancho's temporary spell permanent should they finish 14th or higher in the Italian's first season in charge in West London. So far, they have made blistering start to the campaign winning 10 of their opening 15, losing twice.

Sancho returned to the Premier League in 2021 as he completed a big-money move to Manchester United after establishing himself as a key player for Borussia Dortmund. He was initially with Manchester City's youth team before making the move to Germany, which the England international himself describes as a "risk".

However, he couldn't replicate his form at the Red Devils and after two full seasons, he returned to the Bundesliga club on a temporary basis - where he found first-team football, helping Edin Terzic's side to the Champions League final.

Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he revealed how he always cheered for the Blues and now the journey has come full circle after growing up in south-east London. He said: "It’s still a bit weird to me, but it’s always good to be home. My family is close, my friends are close.

"I always supported Chelsea as a kid, because of Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba. And speaking to Enzo [Maresca] before I came here, he was determined to work with me.

"He showed me his plans of where he sees me fitting in the team, and telling me how I could help the team moving forward. That brought me here. He made me feel comfortable. I liked his energy on the FaceTime call we had.

"This squad has a lot of great talent. It’s weird being one of the older players! There are a lot of young guys here. I have a lot of experience and I can show and help a couple of the younger ones coming through.

"And they can help me. We can achieve something big if we all stick together and work hard together."
