Leeds Rhinos' Gary Hetherington in shock link to new club takeover
London Broncos are set to be taken over by NRL club Brisbane Broncos, according to fresh reports. According to Sun Sport, the Championship club are closing in on a deal to secure their future - with the deal being brokered by Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington.
Rugby League Live revealed last week that the Broncos were on the verge of a takeover, which included an unnamed 'senior Super League administrator'. Sources had suggested Hetherington was involved but we decided not to reveal his identity due to a lack of proof.
However, the latest reports have now revealed that Hetherington is involved and looking to do a deal with the Broncos, who previously held a stake in the UK club over 30 years ago.

Hetherington is currently Leeds' chief executive and has been involved in the club since 1996. Last year, he stepped down from his on-field commitments following the arrival of Ian Blease as Director of Rugby.
The Broncos have been facing an uncertain future following the departure of long-serving owner David Hughes, who ended his association with the club at the end of last season. Hughes had put an eight-figure sum into the club during his time in charge and without any further investment, the Broncos' future was under threat. However, those concerns now appear to have been alleviated, with Brisbane set to invest in the club.
It's a fascinating development, not only because of Hetherington's involvement but the fact it would be the first step towards the NRL investing in the UK game, something that has been discussed at length in recent years.
