Leeds United £144m Championship reality after January transfer decision
It was a quiet January transfer window for Leeds United with no new arrivals at the club, meaning that the Whites will go with what they have for the second half of the season.
Despite the disappointment of the FA Cup exit against Millwall at the weekend, Daniel Farke’s men will now have their full attention of maintaining their place at the top of the Championship table and earning promotion back to the Premier League at the end of the campaign.
While it was a quiet window for Leeds, some of their promotion rivals did strengthen their squads. Burnley added Marcus Edwards, Ashley Barnes, Jonjo Shelvey, Jayddon Banel and Oliver Sonne to their squad. Sunderland meanwhile signed Jayden Danns, Enzo Le Fee and Wilson Isidor.

Those transfer additions would have added to the combined value of the two team’s squads. Comparing the squad values of all of the Championship teams, with figures from transfermarkt, it’s Burnley who lead the way with their squad having a combined value of £148.8 million.
That’s just over £4 million more than Leeds’ squad value of £144.4 million. Sunderland have the next most valuable squad, but it comes in at more than £40 million less than Leeds’, despite the winter additions.
The range of values in the squads show the difference between the top and bottom clubs in the league. Burnley’s squad value coming up £132.6 million more than newly promoted Oxford United, who have a total squad value of £16.2 million.
