Leeds United behind closed doors plan that paid off in Elland Road moment
It's been a long time coming, but Joe Rodon's first goal in Leeds United colours owed much to the hard work put in at their Thorp Arch training round.
The Welsh defender got on the end of Joe Rothwell's corner to finally break Derby County's resistance in Saturday's 2-0 Elland Road win, with fellow defender Max Wober making sure of the three points with a second before the break.
It was Rodon's first goal for Leeds in his 70th appearance for the club, and while the former Spurs man admitted he was due a goal, he revealed they had been practicising their set-pieces in training all week. Rodon could have opened the scoring earlier but headed wide from a flag-kick, so he was delighted to make amends.

“Hopefully it's the first of many," he said. "It was very frustrating but to finally score, it's a great day overall, and we're in the top two. The chance before is easier but I had too much time to think!
“We were frustrated last weekend (at Blackburn) but to be back in front of our home fans with a win and a clean sheet is all we can ask for. To be fair I think the first chance was a bit easier but we have been working on set-pieces all week.
“It’s important when a team sits off, when we’re trying to beat the press on everything, to score from a set-piece is a great day.”
Leeds saw Junior Firpo limp out of the game before half-time, with Wober set to continue to deputise at left-back against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, with Sam Byram also a doubt. However, Ethan Ampadu made his return to the bench against Derby, to offer Daniel Farke more options in midfield and at the hear of his defence.
