Leeds United captain fires Championship warning to teammates after routine Stoke City triumph
Ethan Ampadu insists there is still a long way to go in the Championship title race, despite seeing them go top of the table after beating Stoke City. Earlier on Boxing Day, promotion rivals Sheffield United and Burnley faced off at Bramall Lane with the latter coming out on top.
Chris Wilder's side dropping points meant that Leeds could go to the summit with a victory at the Bet365 Stadium and that was exactly what they managed. A brace from Joel Piroe handed Daniel Farke's side the win with a very professional away performance on show, something that has been missing in recent weeks.
With just one league win away from Elland Road in their last four, securing all three points against Stoke was crucial. Though it was a comfortable triumph, Ampadu has insisted it must only be the start of improving form on their travels.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Great [to be back from injury] and it is always nice when you're on the end of a good win. There is still a long way to go but we're happy with tonight. We knew it would be a difficult game."
On his side's inconsistent away form he added: "It is something hurting us as players and staff. I want the fans to know it's something we are trying to work on. This is just the start and hopefully we can build on it."
And on the poor weather, he joked: "Maybe a couple of my misplaced passes were due to the fog." Leeds could have had several more goals but it was Piroe that came up in the big moments with his first strike particularly decisive and clever.
After being played through on goal, the chance looked to have gone when Viktor Johansson clawed the ball away but Piroe stayed in control and fired home off the woodwork from a narrow angle. "I saw the short corner open so I thought this is not a chance I'm going to miss so I had to take it."
Leeds are back in action on Sunday as they take on Derby County at Pride Park while Burnley face Middlesbrough and Sheffield United welcome West Brom.
