Leeds United confirm latest January transfer with forward deal announced
Forward Joe Gelhardt has joined Leeds United's Championship rivals Hull City on loan for the remainder of the season. Gelhardt has been unveiled as a Tigers player this afternoon, having undergone his medical on Monday in London.
It is no big surprise to see Gelhardt leave Elland Road in the January transfer window. The 22-year-old had fallen behind Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford in the pecking order for a striking berth.
Gelhardt has made just three league starts for the Whites since August 2022. He has started only one match this term - their 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Middlesbrough back in August. The versatile attacker has rarely featured in Daniel Farke's matchday squad in recent months and was a notable absentee from Saturday's hard-earned FA Cup win over Harrogate Town.

A United statement read: "Leeds United can announce Joe Gelhardt has completed a loan move to fellow Sky Bet Championship side Hull City. The forward has joined the Tigers until the end of the 2024/25 campaign, bolstering the attacking options for newly appointed manager Ruben Selles as the club aims to move up the league standings, away from the relegation zone.
"Gelhardt joined the Whites in 2020 and has been a regular in first team squads, but with playing time limited in the current season, the 22-year-old will gain vital minutes with Hull to further his development. Everyone at the club wishes Joffy well during his time at the MKM Stadium and we look forward to seeing his further development."
It is thought the Whites, who return to action on Sunday at home to Sheffield Wednesday, have no plans to replace Gelhardt this month. Central midfielder Charlie Crew has also departed United and joined Doncaster Rovers on a temporary basis. The teenager is highly-regarded at Thorp Arch but has failed to force his way into Farke's first team plans. His only outing came as a late substitute in the comfortable home win over Plymouth Argyle.
