Leeds United have sanctioned four exits this month but have overseen no arrivals. The sale of Sonny Perkins means the Whites are one of few Championship clubs to have a minus winter net spend as things stand.

The truth is, it could remain that way. United hold interest in Cameron Archer but Southampton are not playing ball. They have rejected an approach from Leeds for their attacker, albeit United are keeping tabs on the situation to see if the needle moves at all.

Archer has not been a regular starter under new Saints boss Ivan Juric, although the Croat has hailed the character of him and said on Thursday that he does not believe the 23-year-old will leave before tonight’s deadline.

He said: “I think Cameron is a very good player and a great guy. For him, we’ve changed the style of game a little bit and maybe he’s suffered a little bit.

“But he is working really hard to understand what I want from him. We will see in these [coming] days. I don't think something will happen. He will stay with us and we will work with him, I think so.”

Daniel Farke says he remains open to late additions in three key positions; centre-back, number 10 and striker. He has taken an opportunistic approach to the market given his strong faith in his current squad.

He has highlighted how they have taken the club to the top of the league and that it is hard to improve on a side that is already going great guns. Club sources have been adamant that Leeds will only jump for someone if they bolster the current team. Farke has acknowledged he has no direct replacement for Brenden Aaronson at number 10 but is satisfied with the fill-in options he has should the American ever be ruled unavailable.

Patrick Bamford’s injury has pushed Farke to be open to arrivals at striker - as is the case at centre-back amid Pascal Struijk’s own hamstring setback, from which he has now recovered. Farke - who has been keen to underline that he ‘trusts my group’ - has outlined how he only wants players who possess great quality, good character and an affordable price tag.

The club is aware that this high bar slims down mid-season options, with rivals always more hesitant to allow their players to leave in January. All the while, Farke says he does not expect any more senior outgoings. While the United boss conceded that he could never say never if a ‘crazy’ bid arrived, he is extremely reluctant to slim his squad further.

Two senior players have already left on loan, with Joe Gelhardt joining Hull City for the rest of the season and Charlie Crew linking up with Doncaster Rovers until the summer too. Academy striker, Luca Thomas has meanwhile joined Halifax Town for the remainder of the campaign, having spent the first half of the season on loan at National league rivals York City.

In summary, Leeds are not expected to have a busy final few hours of the window. But never say never. Don’t go to bed just yet.
